Hyundai Genesis RWD V8
We’ve heard rumors, seen spyshots, and now it’s actually reality. After over a year of speculation, we’re starting to see the new Hyundai Genesis in dealerships all across North America. Following years of building fuel-efficient smaller sized cars, Hyundai has decided to leap into the luxury market. They’re now benchmarking against manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes.
On first sight, I thought it was a Mercedes E-class with a modified front grill. As I analyzed further, the car turned out to be a Hyundai. After a quick drive, I noticed that what I was driving was not your typical Hyundai.
The Powerplant
The V6 3.8L engine produces nearly 290 horsepower @ 6200 rpm with 264 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm. With a 0-60mph at 6.2 seconds, one would think that Hyundai has really set the new standard for their fleet. But when you look at the V8, it’s a whole other story.
The V8 4.6L Tau twin-cam, 32-valve, 100% alloy engine produces a stunning 375 horsepower @ 6200 rpm with 333 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm. Coming with a ZF 6-speed SHIFTRONIC® transmission and an LSD, the 0-60 mph times claimed by Hyundai are 5.7 seconds.
Competition
Hyundai was bold enough to make a comparison to the BMW 750i (below).
Hyundai, are you guys planning to throw the engine into the TIburon?
